Interventional radiology is a highly specialized field within radiology in which minimally invasive techniques and image guidance are used in treating patients.

Although digital subtraction angiography is utilized for the majority of these procedures, many interventions are performed using fluoroscopy, ultrasound and CT guidance. A wide range of catheter based treatments for peripheral vascular disease are performed such as angioplasty, stent placement and thrombolysis. Embolization is routinely used for the treatment of tumors and hemorrhage. Venous access devices are routinely placed to help with infusion of chemotherapy in cancer patients. Our interventionalists also have an active role in the care of dialysis patients including angioplasty and thrombolysis of occluded shunts.
